FTPS is an extension of the FTP protocol that allows the use of TLS (Transport Layer Security) and SSL to encrypt your credentials when logging in through FTP (much like SSL encrypts data passed through secure (HTTPS) URLs. It is an acceptable solution to use in place of standard (unencrypted) FTP if you need to disable standard FTP to meed PCI requirements.
Click on the link for your FTP client below for instructions on setting up FTPS:
Whether you are adding your site for the first time or changing settings for an existing site, you will need to open the Site Manager under the File menu:
If you are adding your site for the first time, you will click the "New Site" button on the left, otherwise, select your existing site from the list of sites on the left. The settings should be as follows:
Host: your domain name (without the www)
Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
Encryption: Require Explicit FTP over TLS
Login Type: Normal
User: your FTP/Account Manager username (usually your domain name without the .com/.net/org)
Password: your FTP/Account Manager password
Next, click on the Transfer Settings tab and set Transfer Mode to Passive
Check the "Always trust this certificate in future sessions" checkbox then click OK if you would like to accept the certificate permanently. You should now be connected using FTPS, and you can let us know to disable standard FTP on your server for PCI compliance.
If you are adding a new site, you will right-click in the Site Manager tab and select Connection Wizard:
Enter your domain name (or IP address/Temporary Domain if your site is not yet live) in the 'Host Address' field and the name you would like to use to refer to this account in the 'Site Name' field then click Next:
Enter your FTP username and password in the User Name and Password fields, set the 'Login method' to 'Normal', then click Next
Next, click on the Transfer Settings tab and set Transfer Mode to Passive
If you are setting up a new FTP site or editing existing FTP site you will right-click on the site name in the Site Manager and select 'Properties':
Select FTP with TLS/SSL (AUTH TLS - Explicit) from the Protocol type dropdown:
Select 'Use PASV' to select Passive FTP from the 'Data connection type' dropdown then click OK
If you are setting up a conncetion for the first time you will click on 'New Connection' under the Connections menu.
Enter a name you will use to identify this connection then click Next:
Select FTP/SSL (AUTH SSL) from the 'Connection Type' dropdown box then click Next:
Enter your domain name (or IP Address/Temporary Domain Name if your site is not yet live) in the 'Server Address' field then click Next:
Enter your FTP username and password in the 'User Name' and Password field then click Next:
Check the settings on this confirmation screen then click the Advanced button, make certain the 'Use Passive mode for data connections' checkbox is checked:
, click OK to return to the previous screen then click Finish
If you are editing and existing connection you will select the 'Site Manager' option from the Connections:
Select the connection you would like to edit within the list of 'Sites' then click Edit:
Change the 'Server Type' dropdown to 'FTP/SSL (AUTH SSL)', make sure the 'Use Passive mode for data connections' checkbox is checked, then click OK button to update your settings:
You can set up a new connection or edit an existing connection by going to: New Connection in the File menu.
You will enter your hostname, FTP username and password in the Hostname, Username and Password fields, then set the Connect using dropdown box to "FTP with TLS/SSL" then check the Enable Encryption checkbox.
You should now be able to connect to the server using FTPS with fetch.
Unfortunately, Dreamweaver is not able to connect to the server using FTPS; however, if you request that we enable SSH for your account you will be able to use SFTP with Dreamweaver (where FTP data is tunneled through an SSH connection).
To set up Dreamweaver to use an SFTP connection (after we have confirmed SSH is enabled for your accout) you will go to Manage Sites, select the site you would like to manage, then click the Edit button:
Next, click on the 'Advanced' tab:
Finally, select 'Remote Info' from the Category list on the left, then check the 'Use Secure FTP (SFTP)' checkbox, then click OK to update your configuration:
