This tutorial will walk you through the steps, one at a time, for configuring CuteFTP to transfer files (such as web pages and graphics) to and from your account at LexiConn via FTP. This is assuming you have not installed CuteFTP yet. When you first install the program, a wizard comes up on the screen asking you for connection options. Here are the steps detailing what to enter in to the wizard, one by one.
1. In the box, enter anything you think will help you associate your LexiConn account with the information you are about to enter. It could be your company name, the name of your web site, or just "LexiConn". When you are done, click "Next".
2. In this screen, enter ftp.your_domain.com and replace your_domain.com with your domain name. Click "Next".
3. Where it says "Username:", enter your domain name without the .com. Where it says "Password:", enter your account password. Click "Next"
4. Leave everything in this screen as it already is and click "Next".
5. Click "Finish". When you get back to the main program window, click the yellow lightning bolt to connect.
Below are the steps to configure CuteFTP to connect to your hosting account. This tutorial is assuming that you have already installed CuteFTP and have either bypassed the Connection Wizard that appears when you first installed, or that you have already used the Connection Wizard to configure some other FTP site.
1. Click the "Tools" menu, open up the "Site Manager" sub-menu, and then click "Display Site Manager". This will open the Site Manager where you can configure FTP sites.
2. Click "New" at the bottom of the Site Manager window to pull down its menu, then select the "FTP Site..." option. This will take you to the screen where you enter the settings for your FTP account at LexiConn.
3. There are 6 options to fill in, they are as follows:
Label:
Change the text anything here that will help you remember that this is the FTP site associated with your account at LexiConn. Here we entered "My FTP Site" as an example, but this could be the name of your company or your domain name.
Host address:
Enter ftp.your_domain.com (replacing your_domain.com with your actual domain name).
Username:
Enter your main account username. This is usually your domain name without the .com
Password:
Enter your main account password.
Comments:
Here you may leave yourself any notes you need.

4. Click the "Actions" tab at the top of this window. Once there, where it says "When client connects, switch to this remote folder:", leave this blank. Where it says "When client connects, switch to this local folder:" enter the (DOS) path to where your web site is stored on your computer. If you are not sure what to enter, click the folder icon next to it to search through your folders. Note that when the program uses the word 'client', it is speaking of itself. A 'client', in technical terms, is a piece of software which connects you to a server. Leave the rest of the options as they are and click "Connect".
