New credit card compliance requirement – ScanAlert free service

There have been numerous reported instances in the news of late documenting credit card theft from online merchants. In order to reduce this activity, Visa and Mastercard plan to require all merchants to be tested by an approved security company to meet the new Payment Card Industry (PCI) web site security standard. The tentative deadline for meeting this requirement is June 30, 2005.

Merchants not tested and certified to be compliant with the PCI standard by June 30th risk fines and loss of the ability to accept credit card payments. This new program is being adopted by the credit card companies in an effort to combat credit card fraud.

LexiConn has arranged to make the first year of PCI compliance testing available to you at no cost via ScanAlert, the world’s largest web site security certification company. This quarterly scanning includes everything you need to be certified to the PCI security standard. Should you choose to continue the service after the first year, the price is locked in at just $19.00 per year, which is well below the retail rate of $149.00 advertised by ScanAlert.

There is no obligation to continue the service after the first year, and having your site receive the PCI compliance testing can only benefit your account standing with your merchant provider as you would be properly addressing their compliance regulations.

You may go to the web page below for more information and to sign up for the free service offer.

Order Status Module updated to handle gift certificates

LexiConn’s Order Status add-on module for ShopSite has been upgraded to handle the new gift certificate feature in ShopSite Pro 7.1. All order status installs have been automatically upgraded to handle gift certificates. A few small bugs and performance enhancements were also updated in the software.

The Order Status module will work with any ShopSite Manager or Pro store version 6.3 or higher. The module allows a merchant to provide a web based method for customers to view the current status of their order, as well as receive emails when a status changes or a tracking number is available. The software can be used to integrate with shipping software such as UPS WorldShip or FedEx’s Ship Manager to automate the importing of addresses and the exporting of tracking numbers and status for the customer to view.

More information on this module can be found on our website at:

    Tip: Review your declined transactions

If you use a payment gateway such as Authorize.net or Verisign to automatically process credit card purchases in ShopSite, an often overlooked area is the list of declined transactions that appears in your gateway’s control panel. Your gateway will have a list of unsettled or declined transactions each day that you can review. For declined transactions, you can see why it was declined (lack of funds, AVS failed, etc…), and can follow up with the customer if desired via email or phone to help them complete their purchase.

With Authorize.net, the declined transactions should automatically contain the email address and phone number of your customer. For Verisign, you can send this info from ShopSite by going to:
Commerce Setup -> Payment -> Configure Processor
and setting the “Order Comments 1,2″ to Phone Number and E-mail Address.

As always, feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Complete contact and support options can be found at:

    Sincerely,
    - The LexiConn Team
