Description: 4x4books.com is a Garmin GPS Authorized Dealer, offering Automotive GPS, Handheld GPS and GPS Accessories along with Mapping Software and 4×4 Trail Guides. The company started out in 1996 as 4x4now.com covering 4×4 trail rides, and soon began offering a few books and videos for sale. There was initially a separate order form for each product, meaning that if a customer wanted to order more than one product, they had to fill out all their information again for each one. Sales grew to the point that the company could see the advantage of a shopping cart, and had ShopSite installed in 1998. This led to an immediate surge in sales as customers could now conveniently order more than one item. GPS was added to their product line and as GPS sales grew, the gpsnow.com website was launched using the ShopSite order anywhere links so that all orders still go through the ShopSite shopping cart at 4x4books.com.

BizRate’s Circle of Excellence Gold Honoree award: The company realized the need for independent ratings when they began selling more expensive GPS products. Customers did not seem to worry too much about buying a $20 book or video from a new company they had never heard of, but were more hesitant to order much more expensive items, like GPS receivers. Hence, in 1999 4x4books.com signed up for BizRate’s Customer Certified Ratings Program. They have maintained excellent to outstanding ratings ever since and were recently awarded BizRate’s Circle of Excellence Gold Honoree award as one of 28 stores that demonstrated outstanding performance in all seven of the following areas from September 1, 2005 – August 31, 2006: Ease of Finding What You Are Looking For, On-Time Delivery, Overall Satisfaction, Selection of Products, Customer Support, Product Met Expectations and Repurchase Intent. This success can be attributed to carefully listening to customer needs, carrying the products they want, keeping enough stock on hand to avoid running out, and prompt shipping. Additionally, well organized and easy to navigate web sites with detailed product information coupled with a dedicated and skilled full time customer service staff enhance the shopping experience.

BizRate provides Customer Satisfaction Ratings for over 80,000 stores

Technologies used: 4x4books.com uses the ShopSite shopping cart software to commerce enable custom pages created using Microsoft FrontPage. The site also uses LexiConn’s Combined USPS/FedEx Shipping Module add-on which enables the ShopSite shopping cart to pull their actual shipping rates from the FedEx and USPS rate servers and ad small amount for shipping overhead. This has proven to be particularly useful in providing FedEx Saturday Overnight shipping. LexiConn programmed the module to display this option only from the end of the shipping day on Thursday to the end of the shipping day Friday. Since it pulls the rates from the FedEx rate server it only receives and displays rates for locations that FedEx makes Saturday deliveries to. The company also uses ScanAlert to monitor server security and for their customers’ peace of mind. Orders are processed with the Stone Edge Order Manager, and their Order Status System is also employed so customers can check on the progress of their order. 4x4books.com also uses the Urchin ShopSite Statistics Module in order to obtain detailed site statistics.
