SSL Secure Certificates…

LexiConn is partnered with GeoTrust, an industry leader in providing SSL (secure sockets layer) secure certificates. SSL is a protocol designed for transmitting sensitive / private information via the web. The secure certificate works by activating the browser’s “lock” icon, and enabling up to 256-bit encryption. All secure pages must begin with https://, and this protocol assures online visitors that confidential information and transactions cannot be viewed, intercepted or altered.

The Geotrust certificates that we offer are compatible with 99%+ of all browsers, and come in four different variations. The first type is the shared certificate that is available for use in all Advanced, Resold, and ShopSite accounts. All secure calls using this certificate would begin with the secure server name that your account is on. If you wanted to have your own domain name following the https://, which is excellent for branding purposes, as well as revenue tracking programs (e.g. Urchin Ecommerce), then you would want to explore any of the remaining three choices:

QuickSSL – standard 256-bit encryption certificate.

QuickSSL Premium – standard 256-bit secure certificate that includes the use of a True Site security seal on your website. This dynamic site seal automatically identifies your site as authentic and validated by a trusted third-party.

True BusinessID – premium 256-bit secure certificate that includes the use of a True Site security seal on your website. This dynamic assurance site seal includes an embedded company name/date/time stamp, thereby offering the utmost in buyer confidence.

Be aware that there are several competing companies offering SSL secure certificates, some at lower prices. Many of these lower cost certificates can be difficult to get installed, as they often require an intermediate certificate to be installed in addition to the secure certificate itself. Another potential problem with budget providers is difficulty with the renewal / reissue of a cert, as they are often unreachable and/or not responsive. Perhaps the most important thing to consider would be how recognizable / appealing the seal itself is.

WordPress blog software updated to latest version 2.0.3…

WordPress, the easy to use and install blog software system that is easily added to any account via the Account Manager, has been updated to the latest version, 2.0.3. The new version is a bug and security release.

Specifics include:
- Small performance enhancements
- Movable Type / Typepad importer fix
- Enclosure (podcasting) fix
- The aforementioned security enhancements

phpBB2 forum software upgraded to latest version – 2.0.21…

phpBB2, the online forum software that is easily installed from the LexiConn Account Manager, has been upgraded to the latest version, 2.0.21. The new version is a bugfix / security release which includes:

- Changes to random number generator code to explicitly truncate the length of the string
- Quoting on boards with HTML enabled
- Special characters on boards with HTML enabled
- Redirect to list if canceling deletion of ranks, smilies or word censors
- Missing error message if an inactive user tried to login (Bug #1598)
- Do not alter post counts when just removing a poll (Bug #1602)
- Correct error in removal of old session keys
- Changed filtering of short search terms
- Improved filtering on language selection (also addresses a number of bug reports related to missing languages)
- Backported more efficient highlighting code from Olympus
- Backported zlib emulation code so that there is only a single confirmation image even if zlib is not available

If you are running a previous version of phpBB2, you will need to upgrade your forum manually if you wish to upgrade to this version. If you need help with this upgrade, please let us know.
