SSL Certificates

LexiConn is partnered with GeoTrust, an industry leader in providing SSL (secure sockets layer) secure certificates. SSL is a protocol designed for transmitting sensitive / private information via the web. The secure certificate works by activating the browser’s “lock” icon, and enabling up to 256-bit encryption. All secure pages must begin with https://, and this protocol assures online visitors that confidential information and transactions cannot be viewed, intercepted or altered.

The Geotrust certificates that we offer are compatible with 99%+ of all browsers, and come in four different variations. The first type is the shared certificate that is available for use in all Advanced, Resold, and ShopSite accounts. All secure calls using this certificate would begin with the secure server name on which your account is hosted. If you wanted to have your own domain name following the https://, which is excellent for branding purposes, as well as revenue tracking programs (e.g. Urchin Ecommerce), then you would want to explore any of the remaining three choices:

QuickSSL – standard 256-bit encryption certificate.

QuickSSL Premium – standard 256-bit secure certificate that includes the use of a True Site security seal on your website. This dynamic site seal automatically identifies your site as authentic and validated by a trusted third-party.

True BusinessID – premium 256-bit secure certificate that includes the use of a True Site security seal on your website. This dynamic assurance site seal includes an embedded company name/date/time stamp, thereby offering the utmost in buyer confidence.

Be aware that there are several competing companies offering SSL secure certificates, some at lower prices. Many of these lower cost certificates can be difficult to get installed, as they often require an intermediate certificate to be installed in addition to the secure certificate itself. Another potential problem with budget providers is difficulty with the renewal / reissue of a cert, as they are often unreachable and/or not responsive. Perhaps the most important thing to consider would be how recognizable and appealing the seal itself is, in regard to enhancing the credibility of your website.

Favicon

A favicon, which stands for favorite icon, is a small icon that is displayed in the address bar, next to the URL. With prior versions of Internet Explorer, the favicon was only visible when looking at your list of favorites. Now that it is displayed more prominently in IE7, it may be beneficial for your website to have one for use as a branding tool and to aid in site recognition.

Here are a few things to note regarding favicon creation/usage:

- 16×16 pixels with 16 colors
- Must be named favicon.ico (all lowercase)
- favicon.ico uploaded as Binary file, not ascii
- Put the file in the main “www” directory

phpMyAdmin Upgraded to 2.11.4
