    Urchin reports on tracking URL’s
Spellchecker for Internet Explorer web browser

    New nameserver added for redundancy…

A third nameserver has been added to our network to provide another layer of redundancy. We have added this third nameserver in response to the distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack upon our two main nameservers that occurred in the beginning of October. The attack came from thousands of computers across the world, and was targetting our nameservers to interrupt service. Although the issue was dealt with promptly, adding another nameservers makes it much more difficult for an attack of this nature to be successful in the future. The new nameserver is also on a separate router, further expanding our reliability and redundancy with respect to domain name resolution.

If you wish to add this third nameservers to your domain, you may do so by adding the nameserver below to your domain record at whichever registrar with which your domain is registered. You are not required to do this, and choosing not do so will NOT cause any problems for your site, or make your site any less secure or reliable. This can only enhance the reliability of your domain being able to be resolved on the Internet in the event our two main nameservers are not functioning properly.

    The new nameserver is:
    NS3.SERVERHOST.NET

If you any questions about this, or need any help adding this nameservers to your domain(s), please let us know.

    phpMyAdmin upgraded to latest version…

phpMyAdmin has been upgraded to the latest 2.5.4 version. This new version has many bugfixes, as well as many new features and enhancements. A full list of new features and fixes can be found at:
    http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/relnotes.php?rel=0

phpMyAdmin is a tool to administer and manage a MySQL database. It can be used to create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields, execute any SQL statement, manage keys on fields, manage privileges, export data into various formats and is available in 46 languages.

NOTE: LexiConn will be upgrading PHP to the latest 4.3.4 release, as well as upgrading MySQL from 3.23.5x to the newer 4.0.1x series in the next month. These upgrades will not cause any compatibility issues, and should result in improved performance and many new features.

    Constant Contact new integration method…

Constant Contact, a company that provides mailing list and email marketing tools, has released a new feature that allows clients to integrate and automate signups for a mailing list or specific target group into any CGI script or ecommerce application. LexiConn has developed an order API script specifically for ShopSite Pro stores to automate the signups of customers into a Constant Contact list. This API works in conjunction with the “Add me to your e-mail list” option on the Checkout screen of a ShopSite store.

The API can also be used in any perl or PHP script to automate signups. Constant Contact provides advanced features such as easy to use HTML templates for newsletters, detailed tracking statistics, easy to use web based menus, and many other useful tools.

    Tips:

    Urchin reports on tracking URLs:
If you have Urchin statistics for your account, there is a not so well known feature that can be used to produce detailed information about how your ads and links on other websites are performing. Urchin has the ability to accurately record and report on “tracking URLs”. A tracking URL is a normal URL that is appended with detailed information. This technique is used in many search engines, and Overture makes extensive use of tracking URLs (This can be enabled in your Overture account manager). An example of a tracking URL would be:
    http://www.your_domain.com/index.html?payperclick=italian_books&category=books

The information after the question mark is recorded by Urchin and is displayed in the Report “Page Query Terms” under the “Pages & Files” section. This allows you to see how each ad or external link that you have that uses a tracking URL performs on your website. It can be utilized to analyze traffic patterns and how users are finding your website. Combining these reports with the “Referrals” reports can help your ads be more effective and targetted at the right audience. And it is as easy as adding some parameters after the question mark in any URL to any webpage on your site.

Spellchecker for Internet Explorer web browser:
Have you ever wished you had a spell checker when you are filling out an online form on the web? Or a spellchecker before posting to a web forum or submitting a trouble ticket? There is a very easy to install free module for anyone using the Internet Explorer web browser or an IE based browser such as MSN. This software adds a spellcheck button to the IE toolbar, and also makes it available via the right mouse button. Simply click the spellcheck, and it will check the spelling of any text box on the current webpage, complete with multiple dictionaries and the ability to add your own words to the dictionary.

The program is aptly named ieSpell and can be found at:
