Holiday shopping tipsAs the holiday shopping season kicks into gear, here are a few tips and things to check in your ShopSite store to make sure you’re ready for all the holiday shoppers…
* Have a friend (or even a stranger) that is not familiar with your site, sit down in front of a computer and ask them to order a specific product. This is a great way to see how first time buyers to your site interact with the website and ShopSite. It can be an eye opening experience when they run into obstacles you were never aware of even existing on your site.
* Check your shipping rates and sales tax settings to make sure they make sense, are accurate, and are not overly confusing to the shopper.
* Test your entire cart experience, especially the checkout and confirmation pages, paying special attention for any security warnings or javascript errors. Do this in both Internet Explorer and Firefox, which will cover 95% plus of all shoppers.
* Make sure your shipping and return policies are clearly visible and easy to find. The more you make the shopper at ease when going to your site, the better chance you have at converting them to buyers.
* Offer incentives such as dollar amounts to qualify for free shipping, use the rewards feature of ShopSite Pro to offer “buy X for the price of Y” specials, and coupons to encourage larger spending.
* If your sales increase during the holidays, try to add a Gifts page that highlights popular gift items. Also make sure your top sellers are “above the fold” and easily found to get people adding things to the cart right away.
* Stay away from clutter and too much up-sell on the cart page unless you know it will lead to increased purchases. Keeping the cart and checkout process as streamlined as possible is the best way to get someone to finalize a purchase.
