8.3 stores patched

ShopSite released a few patches for version 8.3 of ShopSite. All current 8.3 stores hosted at LexiConn have been patched. The patch corrected the following issues:

* fixes an issue where the SC_Cart shopping cart template tag would only allow 6 optional parameters instead of all 7 that are available.

* fixes an issue where the IMAGE custom template tag that should return only the image filename was also prepending the image size folder.

* fixes an issue where large numbers of special characters in the data passed to a custom template CALL tag would cause the tag to fail.

* fixes an issue where the _udn parameter required in the Google Analytics JavaScript for certain stores was misspelled as _und.

* fixes an issue where in certain circumstances an extra “[–” would be output on a ShopSite-generated store page when using custom templates with INCLUDE tags.

* fixes an issue where merchant with their initial shopping cart screen set to be secure (non-standard) could receive a browser security warning about non-secure content on this screen if they had enabled Google Analytics in their ShopSite store.

Email marketing module docs

The new email marketing module has been a huge success since we announced it last month. We are continuing to improve it, fix small bugs, and develop more documentation. We have created a number of knowledgebase entries describing common questions and issues which can be viewed on our website at:

Tips and tricks

Here are a few issues we’ve seen come up recently…

- With 8.3, you can set a minimum quantity that can be ordered for a product. This is set under “Edit Product Info”. You can also set the cart to automatically increase the quantity to the minimum under:
Commerce Setup -> Order System -> Shopping Cart

- With 8.3, you can submit your products to Google Base via the FTP method which supports a large number of products. Google has made some recent changes, including the requirement that each product be on its own page. So, if you are submitting your products to Google, make sure each product has its own more information page to meet this new Google requirement.

- If you are looking to take advantage of the new image resizing feature in ShopSite, not all product templates support it. Specifically, the “Default Product Template” does not, but the “DefaultCustomProductTemplate” does support image resizing.
