Version 9 license owners to v10

ShopSite Inc. has made version 10 a free upgrade for all version 9 license owners, but only until January 31, 2009. (ShopSite lease accounts are always entitled to free upgrades regardless of version.). Because of this deadline, we will be upgrading all version 9 license accounts to version 10 in the next few weeks.

License account owners will receive an email detailing the upgrade plan and will also receive an email once the seamless upgrade is complete for their store.

The initial email will include an option to opt out of the free v10 upgrade if desired, with the understanding that upgrading to v10 after January 31, 2009 will incur the standard upgrade fee.

Full details on version 10 can be found on our website at:

    Renaming a custom template

A common issue that comes up is when a merchant is using a built-in ShopSite template, but needs to customize or change a certain part of that template. You do not want to modify the actual built-in template, as it would be overwritten the next time the store was upgraded.

A workaround to this issue is to copy the built-in template to a new name, edit this new custom template with the desired changes, and then rename this custom template to match the same name as the built-in template. This operation can be performed in ShopSite under:

    Merchandising –> Custom Templates

ShopSite will always use a custom template over a built-in template if both have the same name.

The other solution is to modify the pages/products assigned templates and change them to the unique custom template name you created.

    More ShopSite cookbook entries

In October we introduced the ShopSite Cookbook that ShopSite has put together. It has a number of quality tips and example code for customizing your ShopSite store and templates.

They have introduced a few new entries including a great series on Using includes with a custom cart template, and a nice overview of all the ShopSite built-in templates. Reference:
