* From the Blog…Hacked WordPress Blogs
WordPress blogs prior to version 2.8.4 were susceptible to a
worm that is still going around the internet. The worm has the
ability to create new invisible admin users, upload malicious
PHP scripts into the plugins section of the blog, etc…We spent the past several weeks detecting and then cleaning any
hacked WordPress blogs in our network. We detected some sort of
hack in approximately 12% of the WordPress blogs that we host! The best thing you can do to make sure your blog never gets
hacked is to keep your blog updated to the latest version, which
is 2.8.5. Other suggestions, as well as more in depth details
regarding the hack can be found in our blog article, located at:http://www.lexiconn.com/blog/2009/10/what-weve-learned-about-hacked-wordpress-blogs/
WordPress Blog Software Upgraded to Version 2.8.5
WordPress, the most popular open source blog software on the
internet, has been updated in the LexiConn Account Manager to
version 2.8.5. This release was primarily a security fix, and
the main changes are:* A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is
currently being seen.* Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables
was evaluated.* Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for
all users including Admins.* Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.
New blog installations from the Account Manager will be
installed at version 2.8.5. If you have an existing blog at a
previous version, the upgrade must be completed manually (or via
the one click upgrade feature in the dashboard, using your FTP
username/password, if you are running version 2.7 or higher). If
you need help with the upgrade and would like us to assist,
please contact us.Featured Client: paper-papers.com
