Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube

By now nearly everyone has heard of or is using Facebook and
Twitter. Both of these social media giants have captured the
spotlight, seen tremendous growth, and went through a number of
growing pains. However, these mediums are not just for
socializing. Utilizing these sites to promote your business is a
smart move. We’ll take a quick look at how you can capture some
    of this “buzz”…

    Facebook:
Although Facebook has been getting some negative press as of
late due to privacy concerns, the advantages to businesses
cannot be ignored. Facebook has unveiled a new global “Like”
button that can be placed on any webpage. This is a great way to
bring some interactivity to you website with Facebook. Here are
2 links that describe this in more detail:

Another thing you can do is create a Business Facebook page for
your website/business. It’s a great way to connect with your
customers that also use Facebook. People can “like” your
company, and follow you in their Facebook stream. (Facebook is
trying to phase out the term “fan” so it can be confusing
terminology wise.) It is easy to setup a business page in
    Facebook:

    Twitter:
Twitter is growing quickly, and is a great way to monitor your
company, products, and brands. You can search for your company
name or even a competitor’s name to see what people are talking
about at any given time. This is a simple passive way to use
    Twitter.

You can also set up a Twitter account for your business. This
enables you to interact directly with your customers. Note that
it is important that you use Twitter as a two way communication
system, and not just a megaphone where you shout out your
marketing and advertising links and ideas. Spend some time
listening to what others are discussing, then start providing
help and answers, thereby becoming a part of the conversation.
At this point, sprinkle in some marketing, and people will be
more receptive to the message because you have already
established your value through other correspondence. The ratio
should be 80/20, that is, 80% sharing and providing value,
    20% marketing and advertising.

    YouTube:
YouTube is almost as popular as Google. Over 2 billion videos
are viewed *each day*. It’s something to consider if you can
work videos into your business. Things such as a video how-to
(like how to put bait on a hook if you are in the fishing
business, how to carve a piece of wood if you sell wood working
materials, etc…), video customer testimonials, videos of your
products being used, are a few ideas you can incorporate.

You can start a YouTube channel, or embed your YouTube videos in
your site directly. It’s not for every website, but if you can
use videos to enhance your message, it’s a powerful tool for
the millions of people that prefer watching a video to reading
    text on your website.
