Behind the Scenes, Part 4 – Intrusion Detection and Firewall Improvements

Finishing up our four part series is a look at LexiConn’s intrusion detection and firewall improvements.

LexiConn utilizes an advanced firewall / intrusion detection system (IDS) that is installed on all servers. The software has highly intelligent rules and packet analysis to detect abnormal patterns of breach attempts, unauthorized logins, and traffic patterns indicative of hacking/spamming. This software is continuously updated, and daily log audits are conducted to spot patterns and stop intrusions before they occur. The software can also block IPs and IP ranges that have too many failed logins for all of our services (ftp, pop, imap, ssh, etc.).

Each webserver also has security rules in place (that are updated regularly) that detect and block malicious web attempts via carefully crafted URLs. This helps limit sql injection attacks and cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities.

WordPress Blog Software Upgraded to Version 2.8.2

WordPress, the most popular open source blog software on the internet, has been updated in the LexiConn Account Manager to version 2.8.2.

This latest version introduces a number of new features, such as:

* Much faster and improved interface
* One click install of themes, plugins, and upgrades
* Redesigned widget interface
* Ability to customize the dashboard

New blog installations from the Account Manager will be installed at version 2.8.2. If you have an existing blog at a previous version, the upgrade must be completed manually (or via the one click upgrade feature in the dashboard if you are running version 2.7 or higher). If you would like LexiConn to perform the upgrade, contact us and we can assist.
