Website Tips…There are a few relatively simple things you can do to improve the usability and navigation of your website. One such idea is to customize your missing.html page. This page is installed onto every account upon creation and is what is used every time someone attempts to access a page on your site that no longer exists, or never existed. You could have this page match the look and feel of the rest of your site, rather than the
generic ‘page cannot be found’ default appearance. One thing to keep in mind when designing this missing.html page is to make sure all links and images use absolute URL’s and not relative links, as relative links can cause problems if someone was trying to go to a page in a sub-directory.Another tip is to make your site searchable by installing a Swish-E search via our Account Manager. Swish-E is a search engine that creates an index of all the words in your website and makes your web pages searchable, ranking results based on the number of times a word appears, whether it is in the title of a webpage, etc… It is quick and comprehensive. Swish-E can be customized to display a certain header and footer as well as numerous other customizations. Once installed, all that is needed is to re-index your website after making significant changes to your web pages. Re-indexing is as easy as running a CGI script from the web and can be set to run automatically each week. Full details regarding Swish-E can be found in our knowledgebase:

One last tip regarding website usability is to make sure that you have appropriate navigation on all of your pages. You want to be sure that visitors can easily get from one page to another without having to use their browser’s back button. You should have links or a site map on every page that makes it easy for a visitor to get from one section of the site to another.
