    Email Options

All LexiConn hosting packages include the ability to receive email at your
domain name through a full featured email system. The majority of our
clients do opt to use email services through us, although you could also
choose to utilize a third party service such as Google Apps or forward your
mail to an external address. Assuming that you are using LexiConn to
directly host your mail, you have a few options for receiving it.

The most popular choice is to configure an email program, such as Outlook or Outlook Express to connect to your email account(s) with LexiConn. You can also opt to use a smartphone or mobile device. Here is a knowledgebase section that explains how to configure various programs:

As per what protocol to connect with, most people choose POP/POP3. Post
Office Protocol (POP) is the most prevalent internet protocol for email
retrieval. It supports simple download and delete requirements for access
to your mailboxes. Most email programs have an option to leave mail on the server, but people connecting via POP typically retrieve all messages to their new mail folder, delete them from the server, then disconnect.

If you need to access your box from multiple locations and/or have multiple people checking the same box, then you may wish to connect via IMAP instead of POP. The Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) allows you to access email on a remote mail server. These messages are typically left on the server until the user explicitly deletes them. In order to keep your IMAP account in sync with webmail (which we’ll talk about next), set your initial IMAP folder when connecting to:
    mail

In addition to the ability to check email using an email program, all of our
accounts include a web based email program called webmail. Webmail allows you to see the current contents of your box on the server. It will not show email that has already been downloaded/deleted to your local computer. However, any messages you leave in the webmail inbox will be available for download via your regular email client. You can also store messages in webmail by moving it to folders that you create in the software. Webmail is ideal for when you are traveling and don’t have access to your regular computer. Other users opt to utilize webmail exclusively as opposed to an email client. You can access webmail from any computer under the Email Options tab of our Account Manager or directly at:

(replace your_domain with your actual domain name).
