Everyone is talking about social media these days. Sites like Twitter and Facebook have become immensely popular, with millions of users each day. If you have not yet used either of these sites in a business sense, you may be missing out on capturing more customers and increasing exposure for your website and services. Effectively utilizing these mediums can also enhance your search engine rankings. Many of our clients have asked, “How do I use Twitter or Facebook for my business?” You do not have to be a social butterfly or waste lots of time with these services. There a number of easy things you can do to start taking advantage of these sites.
Use the search feature: The simplest thing you can do is search for your business name, products you sell, or services you offer. This will give you results of who is talking about your business, and what they are saying. It can be a barometer of how your website/products are perceived, and provide insight into new opportunities or changes you can implement to improve your offerings. There is even software that can alert you when certain search terms come up in new “tweets” or Facebook posts, making it very easy to keep track of what is being discussed.
Follow users and businesses: You do not necessarily have to post interesting content yourself. A great way to use Twitter is to follow people and businesses that are of interest to you, or are in the same field of work. This allows you to keep up to date on the latest happenings, find out how your competitors are using the service, and may open up new doors for engaging a new type of customer. With Facebook, it’s as simple as becoming a fan to stay connected to other organizations within or related to your industry.
Update your customers: You do not have to update your status every five minutes, or write interesting witty commentary all the time (often “less is more”). Ask your customers and those interested to follow you on Twitter or Facebook, and send out updates/posts for important changes, new products, special offers, etc… It is a great way to keep people informed about what your company is doing, or bring to their attention information they may find interesting or useful.

WordPress, the most popular open source blog software on the internet, has been updated in the LexiConn Account Manager to version 2.8.4.This latest version is a security fix release. It fixes an issue where a malicious URL can be sent to reset the admin password. Note that they cannot obtain the password, but it will trigger a reset and an email is sent to the admin email address. It is highly recommended that all earlier 2.8 versions upgrade to this release.
New blog installations from the Account Manager will be installed at version 2.8.4. If you have an existing blog at a previous version, the upgrade must be completed manually (or via the one click upgrade feature in the dashboard, using your FTP username/password, if you are running version 2.7 or higher). If you would like LexiConn to perform the upgrade, contact us and we can assist.
