Description: MorePrepared.com, a provider of emergency preparedness supplies, went online in August 2005, just two weeks before Hurricane Katrina threw the country into a preparedness craze. Since then, the company has expanded their product line from school, home and car kits to a whole line of preparedness gear including first aid and medical supplies. Custom kits, where you can pick and choose what to put in your kit, are also a big seller. Their mission is to provide preparedness information and knowledge, as well as great customer service in helping you get what you need.

The company is headquartered in southern California where local residents stop by and get prepared. Their products are also sold and distributed through affiliates and distributors, at fairs and tradeshows and, of course, online.

Technologies Used: Mina from MorePrepared.com states, “We went live with ShopSite in March 2010 and have been extremely pleased with the ease of use in the back office. Previously we used OS Commerce and had some issues with security which we had to eliminate immediately. We also switched over to LexiConn as our hosting provider and have been very happy with their prompt and efficient service.

Website design and custom templates were provided by Designs With Merit. We have recently added several modules to ShopSite and are looking forward to utilizing them to increase our sales and efficiencies. Newsletters are sent using Mail Chimp and we are active in blogging, Twitter and Facebook. In addition, we work with emergency information mobile apps to provide their users with quality preparedness supplies.”

Advice / Tips: Mina continued “The one thing we’ve learned along the way is that you get what you pay for. If you try to go cheap, you will inevitably have to redo it, so spend the money and do it right the first time. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run and get you on the path to success faster.”
