    Security Best Practices

    ——-
Keeping your local computer safe is essential to keeping your website safe.

Aside from a software vulnerability, the majority of attacks can be traced back to a compromise on your local computer. If your computer is infected, it doesn’t matter how secure you make your password, as a keylogger could monitor your typing and obtain your password, regardless of complexity.

In order to keep your local computer safe from vulnerabilities, you should always have an antivirus program running. Two that we recommend are Comodo and Avast. In addition to an antivirus program, you should also be running a malware scanner as this type of scanner detects items that an antivirus program does not. The one we recommend and use ourselves is Malwarebytes.

Aside from your local computer, there are services you can use to scan your website for compromise. One such service that we recommend and are partnered with is StopTheHacker. They offer automated malware detection and removal, and pricing starts at only $10/month. More information about this offering can be found on our website at:

Other best practice tips with respect to security include checking your email securely, and connecting to FTP securely. This is especially true if you are connecting over WIFI, as passwords can be taken as you type them if the connection isn’t secure. When you connect securely, be sure to use the SSL server name that your account is on in order to avoid a mismatch warning in your program. The SSL server name for your account can be found on the main Details page of the Account Manager (the first screen you see when you log in).
