* From the Blog…SSL Certificate Options
Any process that collects sensitive data, e.g. credit card numbers, personal information, etc. should make use of an SSL certificate. The SSL certificate serves to encrypt the data as opposed to a plain text transmission. All of our Advanced and ShopSite accounts include the ability to use an SSL certificate.By default, the shared SSL certificate is configured for use with these accounts. This allows for secure data transmission through the server’s generically named (e.g. abc.secure-host.com) SSL certificate. While the shared SSL certificate does offer the same level of browser compatibility and encryption functionality, many customers opt to use their own SSL certificate instead.
Having your own SSL certificate allows you to make secure calls via your domain name as opposed to using the shared secure server name. It’s an inexpensive way to boost consumer confidence and many marketing/tracking programs require it as it allows for easy tracking via cookies since the entire website experience will stay on your domain name. Further, you’ll be able to display a widely recognizable secure seal on any or all of your pages. If you would like to purchase either a GeoTrust or Symantec (VeriSign) SSL certificate, you may do so through our site at:

Aside from having a valid SSL certificate for secure functions, it is also imperative that all required elements are called securely on secure pages in order to avoid browser security warnings. Links do not need to be called securely, but images, css, backgrounds, and JavaScript do. If you have your own SSL certificate, this change is as simple as updating the applicable calls to use https instead of http. If you are unable to determine which elements are causing a security warning for a secure page on your site, feel free to use our checker tool located at:
Another issue related to site security is the fact that the newer versions of the Firefox browser default to using https when a URL is typed in. This is not desired in most cases, and we have written a blog post on the topic, including an easy fix:
