Google Webmaster Tools

The first topic is Google Webmaster Tools, which is an extremely useful service that all website owners should utilize. It is a free service and is not restricted to just ecommerce sites. Google Webmaster Tools is able to provide detailed reports about your pages’ visibility on Google, which can help you optimize your site to improve your indexing.

It is very important that you check Google Webmaster Tools regularly as it can make you aware of many things that need attention on your site and new features are added often as well. In fact, the Tools were recently redesigned with some enhancements added. This article gives a good overview of the new system:

The main page of the system will now give you the overall health assessment of your site, as well as errors, available updates, statistics, and malware information. For more information on site health and real-time analytics, reference:

A key alert now available in Google Webmaster Tools lets site owners know about duplicate content issues across domains. This alert can show you why a particular URL isn’t showing up in Google, as Google will only choose one representative URL when duplicate content across multiple domains is present. Search query data has been expanded to cover 90 days. Queries reported has also been increased from 1,000 to 2,000 for each selected day in this range. This article explains in detail what is in each report and

Google SEO Changes

Recent Google ranking changes have affected some sites as well, as Google is more aggressive at targeting web-spam/”black hat SEO”. The recent “penguin” update affected some merchants as well. As per social networking, we do recommend that you look into Google Plus(often written as Google+ or G+). This service is open to everyone with a Google account, including businesses. While it is not the highest factor for website ranking currently, Google is using it for data to determine how it will impact ranking in the future.

We recommend that you set up a Google+ page for your business and then post to it with useful, relevant content. You can even link your Google+ individual account to blog posts, which will give you increased visibility. Here are some articles with additional details:
