ShopSite March 2011 Newsletter
===========================================In this Month’s Newsletter:
* ShopSite Demo Account
* 10 SP2 r2 Patch – Google Analytics
* Is Your Checkout Page Actually Secure?
* From the Blog: Filename do’s and don’ts, Mailing coupons, Google product search XML file…
ShopSite Demo AccountTesting changes to your live store can be a tricky endeavor. If the changes are limited to page/product templates, you can create a test page and product, assign the new templates to them, and test without interfering with your live store.
However, if your changes are more in-depth, like cart changes, global text, etc… it can be next to impossible to isolate these changes from your live store.
That’s where a ShopSite demo account comes in handy! We offer a demo version of ShopSite that we can install in a separate development hosting account. The cost is only $25/month, and allows you to make sweeping changes without affecting your live website.
By default we set up the demo account as a fresh, empty install of ShopSite. If you’d like the demo account populated with your web files, pages/products, and ShopSite settings from your live site, there is a one time $40 setup fee. During this copy procedure, we change all URLs to work in the demo environment.
Also, if you need help migrating changes from your demo account to your live account, we can help make the move seamless.
10 SP2 r2 Patch – Google AnalyticsAll 10 SP2 stores have been patched to resolve a few Google Analytics issues. There was a bug with using the built-in Google Analytics and choosing the new “Asynchronous Google Tracking” method. This has been fixed.
If you’re using the built-in Google Analytics code in ShopSite, we’d recommend using the Asynchronous method because this will allow the Google code to load independently from your web pages. This means that the Google code will not cause your pages to load more slowly, even if Google has a network problem that delays the serving of their analytics code.
Is Your Checkout Page Actually Secure?How do you know if your checkout page or customer registration sign-in/register page is actually secure? Is it causing your visitors to see a broken padlock or get a security warning?
We’ve launched a new website that makes checking these pages a snap:
It’s easy to use:
1. In your web browser, go to your checkout page and/or customer registration sign-in page.
2. Copy the full URL from your browser window. *IMPORTANT* Do not leave this page until after the scan completes.
3. Go to http://www.WhyNoPadlock.com and paste the full URL into the text box.
That’s it. The service will analyze your secure page and tell you if any items are being called insecurely.
