LexiConn – March 2010 Newsletter
===========================================In this Month’s Newsletter:
* Google Webmaster Tools Part 2
* Featured Client: ontimemall.com
* From the Blog…Google Webmaster Tools Part 2
In last month’s newsletter, we wrote about Google Webmaster Tools, which is a “must have” free service for any website owner. In this newsletter, we will introduce some other features that the tools have to offer.Google recently announced that they will alert webmasters to potential issues with their sites. These issues include:
* Spammy or abused content
* Abused forum pages or large amounts of comment spam on blogs
* Indications that their website or webpages have been hacked or defacedThese notifications are posted by default to the “Messages” section of your Webmaster Tools account. Given the important nature of these alerts, we highly recommend receiving them via email as well.
There is even a section under Labs devoted to “Malware details”. If Google detects malware on your site, then this page will provide samples of the harmful code that was detected. Information about the likely type of compromise will also be provided, in order to help you determine what caused the issue and how best to address it. We can also assist with cleaning infected sites.
We have a blog post regarding these topics in more detail:

Another important section of Google Webmaster Tools is the Keywords section located under “Your site on the web”. This page lists the most significant keywords Google found when crawling your site. Couple this with the “Top search queries” report and you will have a good deal of insight into how Google is interpreting the content of your site.
If unexpected keywords appear, then this could be a sign of a hack, as detailed above. If any expected keywords are missing, make sure to check your crawl errors page. If there are not any crawl problems, then your expected keyword may have been excluded because Google has determined it is “common”. Common/excluded words vary from site to site.
