* Domain Transfer Special
* Featured Client: chicagolandbicycle.comLexiConn: Behind the Scenes, Part 2 – Backup Systems
Last month we took a detailed look at our DNS redundancy. This month we will look at LexiConn’s backup systems.LexiConn’s backup system has been greatly improved and enhanced to provide data protection and recovery systems to minimize data loss. Currently, each shared/e-commerce server has a separate backup drive that is used to store the current day’s backup plus the prior five days of backups. These backups are taken each night to provide a point in time backup that can be used to restore files for clients, as well as a way to restore an entire server if needed due to simultaneous, multiple drive failures or filesystem corruption.
In addition to the separate backup drive, nightly offsite backups are conducted to another datacenter in a different geographic location. These emergency backups can be used in a disaster recovery scenario, thereby insuring data is preserved in the worst case scenario of the loss of an entire datacenter.
Completing the backup system is the utilization of a continuous data protection system (CDP) that includes four hour continuous backups being performed on our shared servers to a powerful local backup server. These four hour backups can be used to fully restore a server quickly in the event that a server was to lose all data (simultaneous, multiple drive failures, OS corruption, etc…). This limits data loss to a maximum of four hours in a scenario where a data restore from the CDP takes place.
To complement our backup systems, our shared/e-commerce servers utilize hardware RAID-1 mirrored Serially Attached SCSI (SAS) 15k rpm enterprise drives. This means that there are two drives that contain the same data, so that in the event of a single drive failure, the server continues to run without downtime or data loss on the second mirrored hard drive. Using high end SAS drives provides optimal drive speeds and increased reliability for our servers.
Domain Transfer Special
LexiConn is pleased to announce a special rate on all domain transfers to our registry from now through June 30, 2009. All transfer orders placed in this time period will be processed at a rate of $12.50, which is a 50% savings off of our normal price! To take advantage of this special offer, simply initiate the transfer process at:http://domains.lexiconn.com/transfer_your_domain.html
In order to complete the transfer via the above link, the admin contact email address on the existing domain record needs to be valid, as that is where the approval email is sent. Also, if the domain is locked with your registrar, you will not be able to submit the transfer order and the submission will take you to an error page. If this occurs, you will need to unlock the domain with your current registrar prior to submitting the transfer order.
Transferring your domain adds a year to your current expiration date, and does not interfere with your website’s functionality in any way. Aside from this special rate, advantages to switching to our registry include an easy to use web interface, knowing that LexiConn will make sure you are aware of when your domain expires, and unmatched customer service. Detailed information regarding the transfer process can be found in our
knowledgebase at:http://support.lexiconn.com/kb/categories/Domains/
You will be billed at our normal rate of $25 per year (or $20 per year for renewals of 5 or more years) for all subsequent years, which represents a significant savings over various other registrars.
