===========================================In this Month’s Newsletter:

* WordPress Blog Software Upgraded to Version 2.6.3
* Featured Client: historicmapsrestored.comSearch Engine Optimization – Back to Basics
In a recent newsletter we discussed Google Webmaster Tools, which is a useful resource that can help make your site more “Google-friendly”. The focus of this month’s newsletter is broader in that we’ll be offering tips on things you can do with your site to improve your rankings in the various search engines.There are several ways you can help your website attain higher rankings in search engines. These include selecting appropriate page titles, keywords, meta tags and carefully worded first paragraphs for each page of your site. These items should all contain the keywords that your website is targeting. By having the same keywords / phrases show up in all of these locations, you are increasing your density, which will in turn improve your rankings.
Despite the fact that you are trying to increase density, it is important to be sure that you do not use the same word / phrase over and over again in each section. Doing so could be seen by the engines as an attempt at artificial inflation which could adversely affect your rankings. Nobody knows for certain how much is too much, but generally speaking you do not want the same keywords / phrases to appear more than a dozen times in all locations, i.e. title, meta tags, and page text.
Experts agree that one of the easiest SEO attributes to implement is keyword research and placement. In order to determine what keywords you should be targeting, it is useful to know which keywords and terms are being searched for. Two excellent keyword research tools are:
