    Cart Abandonment rates part 2

Last month we looked at what cart abandonment rate is, and how you can track it. Now we’ll take a look at a few ways you can try to improve this rate to get more window shoppers to make a purchase at your store.

Your “add to cart” buttons are the gateway to turn browsers into buyers. Make sure they are easily identified on a page, and it’s simple to add a product to the cart. If shoppers get frustrated, they’ll move on to the next site.

Once they are in the shopping cart, minimize distractions, flashy graphics, etc… Only include what is needed to get them to checkout. Emphasize progress indicators showing them how easy it is to complete an order with ShopSite. It’s essentially two steps to complete an order, so let them know that if possible (On cart, step 1 of 2, on checkout, step 2 of 2).

Display how safe and secure your site is with items such as a BBB logo, Hacker Safe dynamic seal, and an SSL secure certificate dynamic seal. When they get to checkout, only ask for the bare minimum information to complete the order. If you don’t really use data such as where did you hear about us, their middle name, favorite food, etc… then do not ask it.

During the checkout process, make sure the shopper can easily click on links about your returns policy, shipping policy, and if you offer a money back guarantee, make that visible as well. The more you can do to re-assure the potnetial buyer that your site is safe, and that you stand behind your products and policies, the easier it is for them to make a purchase.
