April 2007 ShopSite Newsletter
=============================================In this month’s issue:
* ShopSite 8.3 now available
* Backup your ShopSite database often
* ShopSite Forum post – JavaScript popup script~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ShopSite 8.3 now available…ShopSite has released the latest version of its e-commerce software, version 8.3. The 8.3 version introduces new functionality in Google Checkout, enhanced Froogle support for larger stores, new UPS international shipping options, and more… A full list of new features can be found at:
http://www.shopsite.com/help/8.3/en-US/new-features.html
LexiConn has fully tested the new release and it is currently running for many of our clients. If you are already running versions 8.x, or if you lease the software, the upgrade to 8.3 is free of charge. You may request an upgrade at:
https://lexiconn.com/lexiconn/shopsite_v83_upgrade.html
Upgrades are completed within two business days following receipt of the upgrade request. The upgrade process is seamless and requires no re-work by the merchant.

Backup your ShopSite database often…Backing up your ShopSite database on a regular basis (and especially before making any extensive changes such as via a database upload) is an essential step for any ShopSite merchant. It is very easy to do, only takes a minute, and can save hours of re-work in the event your changes go awry. Although LexiConn does make multiple backups regularly (6 days worth of full backups plus remote offsite backups), performing a database backup in the ShopSite backoffice allows you to easily restore things yourself immediately in the event there is a problem.
To perform a database backup, log into your ShopSite backoffice and go to:
Utilities -> Database -> BackupThis will backup your pages, products, orders, coupons, gift certificates, etc…
In the event you do a product database upload for example that ruins your existing products, you can easily restore from the backoffice as well:
Utilities -> Database -> RestoreYou can choose just to restore the pages and products data (you cannot just restore one, both pages and products must be restored from version 8.1 on), or, if things really got corrupt (or you deleted coupons, gift certificates, etc…) you could restore the entire database. Note that a full restore will overwrite any changes made since the last backup to products, pages, coupons and gift certificates as well as overwriting any new orders since that previous backup.
If you find that you did not perform a recent backup and need something restored, you may always contact us and we can assist in trying to get things back to the last working copy on hand.

ShopSite forum post – JavaScript popup script…A great post on the ShopSite forum discusses various methods for having JavaScript popup windows for larger image views:

The last post references a new JS script named Lightbox that has some neat features.
We also have a tutorial entry on another method for JS popups:
