    LexiConn – April 2005 Newsletter
    ===========================================

    In this month’s issue:
    * LexiConn releases new Support Center
    * LexiConn adopts Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as new operating system
    * PHP and phpBB2 updated to the latest versions

    LexiConn releases new Support Center

LexiConn is pleased to announce the release of its new and improved support center. The support center can be found at:

    http://support.lexiconn.com/

If you had previously registered with our old help desk, you will have to re-register your email address in the new support center. Registration is quick and easy, and allows you to take full advantage of everything the support center has to offer, including the ability to track requests and reference old issues. The center allows for web-based support requests, but you are still welcome to email any support requests that you have directly to:
    support@lexiconn.com

Our recently redesigned knowledgebase is also an excellent resource for support, as it has many answers to common questions / problems, as well as tutorials on how to configure common software applications. The knowledgebase is located at:

LexiConn adopts Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) as new operating system

LexiConn is pleased to announce that all new servers will be built with the new Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system as the core OS. LexiConn has always used Red Hat Linux as its OS for all servers and we are pleased to be building our newest machines with their commercial grade enterprise release.

The operating system is backed by the Red Hat development team, and has a five year end-of-life (EOL) contract, resulting in a stable solution that is fully supported well into the future.

Red Hat still maintains an open source approach to its commercial operating system, but provides enhanced support and rapid patches and upgrades to installed software. This approach is well suited for LexiConn, as all servers are built with high quality components, and this enterprise OS will match this high level of quality. The new OS will help to increase server stability and security and shows the commitment LexiConn has to providing a truly reliable hosting solution.

PHP & phpBB2 updated to the latest versions

The PHP programming language software has been upgraded to the latest 4.3.11 version. This update is mainly a bug fix release, and does not introduce any new features. The new version is backwards compatible with previous versions, and does not change any ini settings.

The phpBB2 forum software that can be installed from the Account Manager has been upgraded to the latest 2.0.14 version. This release is mainly a bug fix release, addressing the following issues:

    - Hardened author and keyword search a bit to not allow very server intensive searches
    - Fixed full path disclosure in bad word parsing
    - Resetting complete userdata array in session code if authentication fails
    - Fixed bug in moderator control panel where certain parameters could lead to an “error creating new session” sql error
    - Fixed bug in session code where empty page ids could lead to an “error creating new session” sql error
    - Fixed html handling in signatures if html is turned off globally
    - Fixed potential issues with styling system
    - Added correct class to login_body template file
    - Removed version number from message body page in /admin (if user is not an admin)
