    Behind the Scenes at LexiConn
    —–
Here at LexiConn there are many things that we do behind the scenes to help keep your site safe and secure and to make sure that all servers are running optimally.

There are several tasks we perform throughout the day in order to keep things running smoothly. One such task is a daily malware scan that is run on all machines. This scan can help identify malicious files in your account, e.g. from a compromised blog, as well as help pinpoint how the compromise happened. We also have monitors in place to detect for compromised logins. If a compromise is detected, we automatically lock the account, examine the logs, and contact the affected user.

Another task we perform is to help our clients achieve PCI compliance, which is required by most merchant account providers in order to accept credit cards. This area is constantly evolving with new failure points on items that were previously seen as passing. We assist by keeping the servers PCI compliant, and providing documentation to the scanning companies. Part of this compliance involves us keeping certain server software versions up to date. If you have a failing PCI scan, feel free to forward it to us and we can assist accordingly.

Aside from server software versions checked for PCI scans, we also keep PHP and MySQL up to date with the latest releases. Not all machines run the latest version of this software due to compatibility with client applications, but we do keep several versions available and up to date with the latest releases within that version. For example, whether your application requires PHP 5.2, 5.5, 5.6, or 7.0, we can accommodate you with the latest release within that version.

Another critical task we perform is with respect to backups. We have a detailed backup system in place which separates us from the budget hosts. This system includes backing up all shared servers to a separate backup drive each night, as well as a centralized backup system, and on a remote disaster recovery backup system. This system insures that a data restore would be possible, regardless of what type of event occurred. In total, over 100 TB of data is currently stored in the backup system. Feel free to read more about our backup procedures at:
